Victory Over Shooters Takes Mercer Island to 59-30
Mercer Island withstood an impressive performance by Springfield center fielder Cornell MacDonald to defeat the Shooters, 8-5, at Springfield Stadium. MacDonald went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. James Lendell Basford got the win, improving to 9-5. He worked 7.2 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 3. Mercer Island is now 59-30, 6 games up in the Premier AA.

Mercer Island used the timely hitting of Asbel Kiprop to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Screaming Eagles on top, 5-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Omer van Osch said.
