Loons Walk It Off for 40th Win of Season
|
For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles got a sterling performance from pitcher James Lendell Basford, but the Loons still prevailed, 4-3. Basford was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Adrián Porras picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-1. Jorge Gil was tagged with the loss.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Igme Samson came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Mercer Island pitcher Luis Oropeza, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Minnesota on top, 4-3.
"We had a chance to win," said Mercer Island manager Omer van Osch, "but we didn't get it done."
With the win, the Loons improved to 40-40.
