The Westwood Sixshooters got a stellar effort from pitcher Neil Young, helping Westwood score a 5-1 win over the visiting Springfield Shooters. Young went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 5-7. The 'W' lifts Westwood's record to 33-46.
Had Bob Kassell not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Kassell hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Sixshooters.
"Big team win," Young said later.
