Mercer Island Topples Casper, 6-3
|
Benefiting from Rubén Vásquez's productive game, the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles downed the Casper Ghosts, 6-3. Vásquez was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Screaming Eagles. James Lendell Basford picked up the win, improving his season record to 8-5. He struck out 6 in 5.2 innings. The save was credited to Luis Oropeza, his 8th.
The Screaming Eagles got a big at-bat from center fielder Serious Lee. For the game, Lee was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Mercer Island a 3-0 lead.
"It was a solid team effort," said Lee after the game.
Mercer Island leads the Premier AA by 5½ games.
