The Fur Traders had to overcome a fine performance from Mercer Island pitcher Alberto López to grab a 6-5 win at Mercer Island Grounds. López allowed 2 earned runs over 5 innings. Milton Mathews, credited with the win, is now 4-1. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 1.2 innings. Yushua Wazir earned the save for Tacoma, his 4th of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for Tacoma, had it not been for Mike O'Neil, the 22-year old catcher . O'Neil contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Tacoma up, 6-5.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Mercer Island manager Omer van Osch. "But we decided not to take it."
Tacoma now sits at 22-19, while Mercer Island falls to 28-13.
