Multi-HR Game for Yuka in 10-3 Win
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles knocked off the San Bernardino Grasshoppers, 10-3, at Field of the Grasshoppers. Temaki Yuka, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Mercer Island won. The first baseman went 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. James Lendell Basford was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. The second-place Screaming Eagles have won 4 in a row.
Mercer Island used the timely hitting of Joe James to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Screaming Eagles on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Mercer Island manager Omer van Osch.
