Shooters Clip Loons in Tight Contest
|
The Springfield Shooters did just enough to sneak past the Minnesota Loons, 2-1, at Springfield Stadium. Springfield pitcher Stan Sweeney earned player of the game honors. Springfield reliever Ricardo Pérez picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Arnie Harper was collared with the loss. The Shooters, now 5-1, have stormed out of the gates.
Ben Bowers had a critical at-bat with no one out in the bottom of the eighth. The Springfield catcher came through with a run-scoring double to put Springfield in front, 2-1.
"Both teams played hard," said Springfield manager Decheng Sun.
