Battery Lose, 6-4, at Dunkin Donuts Park
|
The Charleston Battery got a superb performance from third baseman António Martínez. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Boston. The Patriots won the game, 6-4. In spite of the loss, Martínez was named the player of the game. He was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was Boston reliever Shu-de Cui, now 2-0. The loser was Juan Contreras. Leo Ingelbrigtsen was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 11 of 15 save opportunities.
The Patriots got a big at-bat from first baseman Jorge Alejándrez. For the game, Alejándrez went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 20th home run of the season gave Boston a 5-3 lead.
Alejándrez told the Boston Citizen: "I think I thrive on conflict. It brings out my best."
Charleston's current losing streak has reached 4 games.
