The Bloomington Longnecks faced a tough opponent in Santa Barbara pitcher Nam-shik Kwak, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Crane Field by a final score of 4-3. Kwak went 8 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Bloomington reliever Steve Wortley picked up the win to move to 1-1. Nam-shik Kwak suffered the loss. Branlyn Jaraba earned the save, his 2nd, for the Longnecks.
Kensaku Hatayama chipped in for Bloomington, stroking a crucial run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning. For the game, the right fielder was 1 for 3 with a double and was hit by a pitch.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Santa Barbara manager Pedro Gonzáles. "The effort was great."
Today's win puts Bloomington at 15-29, while Santa Barbara falls to 18-26.
