Nationals Squelch Rails Offense in Shutout Win
|
The Richland Rails got a superb performance from pitcher Eurauraga Attunga. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Ottawa. The Nationals won the game, 3-0. In spite of the loss, Attunga was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings allowing 3 runs. David Blake converted his 19th save in 23 tries. The 11th-place Nationals improved to 42-59.
The Nationals got a big at-bat from first baseman Rey McSriff. For the game, McSriff was 2 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 104th hit of the season gave Ottawa a 2-0 lead.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," McSriff told the Ottawa Daily. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
