Big Day by Ruíz Ignites Whales Win
Virginia Beach right fielder Manuel Ruíz was instrumental in his team's 7-3 win over the Bethesda Atoms. Ruíz, who is tied for 2nd in the 3AA with a .525 slugging percentage, went 4-4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Whales. Virginia Beach now owns a record of 53-44.

Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Tom Bell to capture the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Whales on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Virginia Beach manager Bernie Drake.
