Highlanders Topple Nationals with Late Rally
|
Asheville beat Ottawa at Nationals Park, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Anbrosio Mera, who earned player of the game honors. Asheville reliever Moses Keijzer picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. David Blake was collared with the loss. Dave Haynes earned the save, his 26th.
The outcome might have been different for Asheville, had it not been for Seika Hagiwara, the 26-year old shortstop . Hagiwara stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Asheville up, 4-3. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"Credit where credit is due," said Hagiwara, "this was a team win."
The win puts the Highlanders at 52-42, while the Nationals drop to 39-55.
