Atoms Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Atoms had to overcome a fine performance from Richland pitcher Josh Waymouth to grab a 5-4 win at Rails Ballpark. Waymouth allowed 1 earned run over 5.2 innings. Reliever Suhaila Zainuddin picked up the win. His record improves to 3-1. Frank Porter took the loss. Dragutin Petrovic recorded the save for Bethesda, his 17th of the season.
This game was not decided until Juan Mata came to bat in the top of the tenth. With the bases loaded and two out, the Bethesda shortstop drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Atoms took the lead, 5-4.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Mata told the Bethesda Times.
Bethesda improves to 63-21 with the win. They lead their division by 15 games.
