Rails Clip Athletic Club KC Academy, 7-6
|
The Richland Rails relied on the hitting of first baseman Bellmay Blake to stop the Athletic Club KC Academy, 7-6. For the game, Blake went 3-5 with 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The winner was Hirohisa Niiya, who threw 103 pitches over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 6 hits. Frank Porter earned the save, his 2nd.
Richland used the timely hitting of Falco Opsteegh to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Rails ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Opsteegh told the Richland News.
With the win, the Rails improved to 33-38.
