Nationals Get Past Phoenix Hotspur for 5-4 Win
|
The Ottawa Nationals beat the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, 5-4 at Grenadiers Ballpark, in part due to center fielder Richard Clemmet, who nabbed player of the game honors. He went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Robby Wand picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-1. Neal Burns was tagged with the loss. Dong Zhŕo earned the save, his 3rd, for the Nationals.
Ottawa used the timely hitting of Glenn Curtis to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Nationals on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Curtis.
Ottawa has now won 3 in a row.
