The Richland Rails grabbed a 7-4 win over the Virginia Beach Whales at Virginia Beach Grounds. Richland shortstop Corey Hines was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once to earn player of the game honors. Tony Smehrik earned the win to go to 7-4. He allowed 4 earned runs on 8 hits, with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. Frank Porter was credited with the save for Richland, his 1st of the season.

Richland used the timely hitting of Bill Hill to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Rails on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
