Highlanders Jolt Nationals with Late Rally
|
The Asheville Highlanders got a strong performance from pitcher Fred Townsend, who stymied the Ottawa offense en route to a 2-1 win at Asheville Park. The Nationals, at 25-36, have lost 7 straight games.
Yves Girard drove in one run for Asheville. The 28-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Dong Zhào. It was his 23rd RBI of the season.
Townsend told a Asheville News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
