Highlanders Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Asheville Highlanders beat the Ithaca Fighting Imps, 5-4 at Asheville Park, in part due to left fielder Ximena Ortíz, who nabbed player of the game honors. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win puts the Highlanders at 33-24, while the Fighting Imps drop to 26-31.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With two out, Ortíz hit a fastball from David Aguilar for a run-scoring single. The Highlanders, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"This is a very good team," said Ortíz. "We have the chance to do something special."
