Whales Stay Hot, Beat Rails
|
The Richland Rails and Virginia Beach Whales cranked it up at Rails Ballpark.
Richland right fielder Luo-lang Li was sensational. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Virginia Beach beat the Rails, 5-3. Li was named the player of the game despite the loss. Virginia Beach reliever Joe Holbrook picked up the win, upping his record to 4-5. Gunner Hines was saddled with the loss. The save was credited to Danny Richardson, his 2nd.
Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Scott Miles to capture the win. The center fielder socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Whales ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Virginia Beach manager Bernie Drake. "It's usually not just one thing."
The slumping Rails have dropped 6 in a row.
