Extra-Inning Win by Whales over Rails
|
The Richland Rails got a superb performance from pitcher Eurauraga Attunga. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Virginia Beach. The Whales won the game, 5-3. In spite of the loss, Attunga was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball. Virginia Beach reliever Kenny Hunt was credited with the win, to go to 1-1. Jim Perry took the loss for Richland. The Whales have now won 4 straight.
Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Jorge Díaz to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Whales on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I like the roll we're on," said Virginia Beach manager Bernie Drake.
