Knights Continue Skid Thanks to Riseley, Hotspur
|
With left fielder Mare Riseley leading the charge, the Phoenix Hotspur defeated the Kingston Township Knights, 9-4, at Chase Field. Riseley, who is tied for 9th in the 3L in doubles with 14, went 4 for 4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Kenny Kawaguchi was the winning pitcher. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. The 11th-place Knights have lost 6 consecutive games.
Riseley contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Phoenix in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Riseley took a cutter from António Rúbio and stroked the home run to right-center. His 7th home run of the season allowed the Hotspur to leap in front, 2-1.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Riseley, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
