Dirty Reds Topple Shredders with Late Rally
|
San Mateo and Hollywood duked it out at The Hollywood Bowl and the Dirty Reds came out victorious.
San Mateo overcame a superlative game from Dan Bond to beat Hollywood, 3-1. The Hollywood pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball. The Dirty Reds saw their record improve to 29-20.
San Mateo used the clutch hitting of Palaie Gaoteote to capture the win. The designated hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Dirty Reds ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Hollywood skipper Bill Cheese, "and it cost us."
