Racers Come Up Short at Memphis
|
Memphis starter Jimmy O'Flahavan pitched effectively against the Indianapolis Racers at Lansing Park. The right-hander led his team to a 3-2 win. The win puts the Redbirds at 33-45, while the Racers drop to 40-38.
The Racers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Redbirds going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old shortstop Brian Rowe came to the plate. Rowe hit a solo home run on a first pitch curveball from Indianapolis hurler Kendarian Handy-Holly. It was Rowe's 9th home run of the year.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Memphis manager Elliott Taylor.
