Humpbacks Squelch Halberds Offense in Shutout Win
|
The Alaskan Humpbacks relied on the hitting of shortstop Gil Andersen to stop the Alloway Halberds, 6-0. For the game, Andersen was 1-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Brandon Franklin picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-2. Mark Toope was tagged with the loss. The win brings the Humpbacks to 7-11, a soft start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
With Alaskan leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Andersen hit a slider from Mark Toope for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Humpbacks ahead, 5-0.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Humpbacks manager John Carney. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
