Thunder Hawks Score Late to Upend Blimps, 6-5
|
The Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks faced a tough opponent in Akron pitcher Jessie Young, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Thunder Hawks Ballpark by a final score of 6-5. Young went 7 innings and allowed no earned runs. Akron's current losing streak is now 4 games.
Luke Thornton was the walk-off hero for Ft. Polk South. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Thunder Hawks catcher hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Akron manager Emílio Sáenz. "But we decided not to take it."
