Victory Pushes Hops Record to 40-38
|
The Yakima Hops got a stellar performance from pitcher Mark Smith, who handcuffed the Chesapeake offense en route to a 4-1 win at Chesapeake Grounds. Kit Scheetz converted his 13th save in 14 tries. Yakima is now 40-38, Chesapeake 30-48.
Yakima relied on the hitting of Steve Williams to pick up the win. The left fielder ripped a run-scoring triple in the top of the third inning to put the Hops on top, 1-0. For the game, Williams had 1 triple and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"If the personal accolades come, so be it," said Williams. "I just want to win ballgames."
