Shuckers Beat Blimps, 10-6
|
The Biloxi Shuckers defeated the Akron Blimps, 10-6. Earning player of the game honors was left fielder Spartak Gonjarov, who went 3-5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. The winner was Jerry Gray, who threw 105 pitches over 7.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits. With the win, the Shuckers improved to 25-28.
Biloxi used the clutch hitting of Bobson Dugnutt to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the first inning to put the Shuckers ahead, 5-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
Shuckers manager Ramiro Guzmán wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
