BC Clip Starks in Tight Contest
|
The Houston BC picked up a win at Stark Stadium, knocking off the Syracuse Starks, 1-0. Starting pitcher Jesús Franco, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. The winning pitcher was Franco, now 4-4. He tossed 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. The BC bumped their record to 43-39 with this latest triumph.
Houston used the timely hitting of Phil Gillespie to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the BC on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Franco told the Houston Daily. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
