The inspired effort of Sacramento shortstop Alexei Ponikarov was not enough to prevent a 7-6 loss to the Hialeah Dodos. Ponikarov hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Yoshi Minamoto picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs on 10 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 2. On the season, he is now 7-3. Hialeah bumps their record to 46-33 with the win.

The result might have been different for Hialeah, had it not been for Richard Sonntag. The catcher produced a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Dodos ahead, 7-2. For the game, Sonntag had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
