The Syracuse Starks knocked off the Key West Coral Reefers, 7-5, at Stark Stadium. Ernesto Souza, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Syracuse won. The third baseman was 3-3 with 3 singles. Ollie McDaniell got credit for the win, improving to 7-6. He allowed 5 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings. Denver Milne was credited with the save for Syracuse, his 4th of the season.
Tom Smythe, who is rated as the 9th best prospect by BNN, aided the Syracuse cause with a 2-run single in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the center fielder was 1 for 4. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Souza said.
The Starks go to 38-40, putting them 9th in the Menard's AAA.
