Derksen Excels, But Buzz Win
|
Salt Lake City and Syracuse duked it out at Stark Stadium and the Buzz came out victorious.
Syracuse left fielder Akke Derksen had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Derksen was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3, even as Salt Lake City beat the Starks, 7-4. Derksen was named the player of the game despite the loss. Paco Manuel earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 4 earned runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.
Salt Lake City needed the clutch hitting of Chan-Wook Park to notch the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Buzz on top, 5-2. For the game, Park had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Park.
Salt Lake City bumps their record to 17-14 with the win.
