Smythe Slugs Starks to 8-2 Win
|
The Syracuse Starks downed the Pennsauken Flyers, 8-2, at Stark Stadium. Tom Smythe led the way, going 3-for-4 for Syracuse. Syracuse reliever Carlos Salcido picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ralph Haggerty absorbed the loss. Denver Milne finished the game for Syracuse and earned his 1st save.
Smythe had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 0-2 fastball from Ralph Haggerty, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Starks a 5-2 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Smythe.
"I felt good up there," said Smythe. "I saw the ball well."
Syracuse, now 3-1, has played well in the early going.
