Highwood Snaps Monroe's Streak at 21
Saturday, June 30th, 2035
For 21 straight games, Damien Monroe tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy.
Well, the 22-year-old Grim Reapers center fielder can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Highwood Hawks. The Hawks held him hitless in 5 at-bats at Hawks Field today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 21.
There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Reapers took the win by the score of 8-2.
"I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now."
Monroe is hitting .263 this year with 4 home runs and 19 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .332, 18 walks and scored 27 times.
