Battery Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids got a superb performance from pitcher Noe Toepfer. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Charleston. The Battery won the game, 3-2. In spite of the loss, Toepfer was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. The winner was Charleston reliever Paco Salazar, now 2-1. The loser was Keith Johnson. The Battery now have a mark of 30-31.
Charleston third baseman António Martínez delivered a run-scoring double in the bottom of the 11th. Overall, he went 3 for 5, including 1 home run, 1 single, and 1 double. He scored 1 run and batted in 2.
"It was a good effort all around," said Martínez.
