SL AAA Championship Game 1 Victory for Rodenburg\n and Vermont
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters started the SL AAA Championship in style today, downing the visiting Royse City Targaryens at Monster Field by a score of 6-2 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Lake Monsters right-hander Roger Rodenburg was named player of the game after he threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball.
Gabe Cain, who is rated as the 90th best prospect by BNN, aided the Vermont cause with a 2-run triple in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the center fielder was 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3.
Cain said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow in Montpelier. The scheduled starters for the game are Kevin Maughan for the Royse City Targaryens and Naozane Kobayashi for the the Vermont Lake Monsters.
