Silver League Championship Game 1 Victory for Starkey\n and Charleston
|
The Charleston Battery moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the visiting Philadelphia 1776 BC at Charleston Armory by a score of 5-1. Battery right-hander Jason Starkey was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball. The win gives the Battery a - advantage in the best-of- Silver League Championship.
Tied up with the BC in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Battery got a boost from right fielder Jasper Morrison. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Morrison saw a 3-1 sinker from Elroy Thompkins and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Charleston on top, 2-1.
Morrison called the triumph "a good team win."
