ïAbbots Ballpark was the site for USPL Rookie action featuring the Surprise Shockers and Capital Hill Interns.
The Capital Hill Interns trumped the Surprise Shockers, 7-4, at ïAbbots Ballpark. Capital Hill first baseman Tom Washington was named player of the game for his performance. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Capital Hill starter Klaus de Lijser was credited with the win after throwing 111 pitches over 5.2 innings. His record now stands at 4-0. Gareth Doppenberg closed the game out for Capital Hill, earning his 2nd save.
In the top of the 6th, left fielder Mark Boyle gave Capital Hill the lead when he hit a bases-clearing double. The Interns had been trailing 3-2, but the two-out double off Surprise pitcher Mototsune Rin changed that -- and Capital Hill went on to win.
"Everyone's trying too hard," said losing manager Desmond Woodford. "If we learn to relax, we'll be fine."
Capital Hill leads the Premier R by 3 games.
