The Valley View Cougars got a superb performance from pitcher Pepe Fontirroig. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Winter Haven. The Sun Sox won the game, 5-1. In spite of the loss, Fontirroig was named the player of the game. He threw 8 innings of 7-hit ball. Winter Haven reliever William Dustin was credited with the win, to go to 10-3. Pepe Fontirroig took the loss for Valley View. Winter Haven occupies second place in the Premier R at 58-31.
Had Pedro Guerrero not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Guerrero hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Sun Sox.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Guerrero said.
