Shockers Take Down Snowpeople, 8-4
|
The game between Surprise and Ellesmere Island is in the books, despite a little rain.
The Surprise Shockers relied on the hitting of shortstop Kyle Mullens to stop the Ellesmere Island Snowpeople, 8-4. For the game, Mullens went 4-4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs. The winner was Surprise reliever Huo-tu Cong, now 3-1. The loser was Francisco Josafat. Matt Koller earned his 2nd save in 3 chances.
José Jiménez had a clutch at-bat with one out in the bottom of the seventh for the Shockers. Coming up with the bases loaded and Surprise trailing 4-3, he hit a 2-run single.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Jiménez said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
Surprise is now 49-38, while Ellesmere Island is 43-44.
