Victory Over Beavers Takes Gibtown to 39-24
|
It was a good time at Wrigley Field, where fans came to watch the Ballard Beavers and Gibtown Elephants get after it.
Ballard got a terrific performance from pitcher Aurelio Ortíz, but it wasn't enough to beat the Gibtown Elephants. Gibtown won the Wrigley Field contest, 4-1. Ortíz was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. Dwaine Spotterswood picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-2. Aurelio Ortíz was tagged with the loss. Taro Kishita, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 14th save.
Pu-feng Zhou helped out the Gibtown cause in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run-scoring double. For the game, the first baseman went 2 for 3 with a triple and a double.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Zhou, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
Gibtown, at 39-24, sits in first place in the Menard's R.
