Elephants Topple Warheads with Late Rally
|
The Amarillo Warheads got a superb performance from pitcher Wilbert Gallegos, but the Gibtown Elephants still won the game, 5-4. Gallegos was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 5 innings allowing 2 runs. Gibtown reliever Kevin MacIvor picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Alex O'Dell absorbed the loss. Gibtown has run its win streak to 6 in a row.
Had José Silva not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Silva hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Elephants.
"It was a solid team effort," said Silva after the game.
