Elephants Drop Another One
|
Behind a solid performance from shortstop Meshach Ashpenaz, the Redwood Rhinos defeated the Gibtown Elephants, 7-0. Ashpenaz was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for the Rhinos. Redwood reliever Norberto Atenes picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Pepe Rodríguez took the loss. The losing streak for Gibtown has now reached 5 games.
Ignacio González had a big bases-clearing double for the Rhinos in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Redwood leading 3-0 and the bases loaded, he got a knuckle curve from Kevin MacIvor and stroked the double to left. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rhinos ahead, 6-0.
"Everyone's trying too hard," said losing manager Augusto González. "If we learn to relax, we'll be fine."
