Beavers Drop Another One
|
The Newcastle Mermen picked up a win at Beaver Town, knocking off the Northwest Territory Beavers, 7-3. Starting pitcher Steve O'Fennaghty, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. O'Fennaghty, now 4-4, was the winner. In 8.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 3 earned runs. The 9th-place Beavers have lost 5 consecutive games.
In the top of the ninth inning, center fielder Barsati Saraf came through big-time for the Mermen. With Newcastle leading 4-2, he belted a 3-run home run.
"Ah, the sweet taste of victory," Saraf crowed after the game.
