Uruguayans Deal Canucks Painful Loss
|
The Germantown Uruguayans beat the Moose Jaw Canucks, 8-7, in 11 innings. Germantown third baseman Scipione Borghese merited player of the game honors with his performance. He went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Germantown reliever Robert Karabanov was the winner. His record is now 4-0. The losing pitcher was Bonifacio Navarro. The Canucks, at 16-22, have lost 5 in a row.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Germantown left fielder Masamune Ueda, facing Bonifacio Navarro, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Uruguayans the 8-7 win.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Moose Jaw manager Wynn Burton. "But we decided not to take it."
