Submarinos Lose, 7-3, at Newcastle Stadium

The Newcastle Mermen topped the Amarillo Submarinos, 7-3, with youngster Iván Reyes playing a key role. Reyes went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Mermen in the win. Newcastle reliever Kini Grinter picked up the win, upping his record to 5-1. Jang-lu Moy took the loss. With the win, the Mermen improved to 14-18.
Stephen Sparks aided the Newcastle cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the first baseman went 1-3. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Sparks told a Newcastle Citizen reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
