Mermen Need Extra Frames to Get Past Submarinos
|
Newcastle beat Amarillo at Terriers Ballpark, eking out a 5-4 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Kini Grinter, who earned player of the game honors. Shiki Yamamoto finished the game for Newcastle and earned his 1st save. Newcastle has a record of 4-6.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Estanislao Hirigoyen came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Amarillo pitcher Wesley Mason, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Newcastle on top, 5-4.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Newcastle manager Harris Bailey. "It's usually not just one thing."
