Rain could not dampen the pregame excitement of Ellesmere Island fans at Corpus Christi Grounds. But the subsequent loss, and a disappointing one at that, to the Shockers had to.

A 5-RBI performance from the 20-year old right fielder José Jiménez helped the Surprise Shockers beat the Ellesmere Island Snowpeople, 11-3. Hugo Hinojo got the win, improving to 5-3. He held the Snowpeople to 3 earned runs on 4 hits over 7.2 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 2.

Jiménez had an important at-bat with runners on 1st and 3rd in the top of the first, when he hit a 3-run home run. The Shockers went on to win.

"We did more than enough to get the win," said Jiménez.

With the win, Surprise has a record of 30-20. Ellesmere Island falls to 27-23.
