Torch Get Past Provo for 3-2 Win
|
The Provo Mango got a superb performance from pitcher Alan Halsall, but the Mancelona Torch still won the game, 3-2. Halsall was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 6 innings allowing 1 run. Mancelona reliever Tomás Mata picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Vítor Paiva shouldered the loss. Mancelona occupies 4th place in the Premier A at 45-39.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Mancelona third baseman Carlos Morales, facing Vítor Paiva, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Torch the 3-2 win.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Mancelona manager Marshall Edwards said.
