Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids got the win.
Northern Virginia rode a fine outing from starter Elton Mobley to victory over the Nashville Outlaws at Nashville Stadium. The final score was 4-2. In 7 innings, Mobley surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run.
Tied up with the Outlaws in the top of the fourth inning, the Rainbow Mermaids got a boost from catcher Tommy Socorro. With a runner on 1st, Socorro saw a 0-1 changeup from John Rigsby and hit a run-scoring double to break the stalemate and put Northern Virginia on top, 2-1.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Socorro said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The win leaves Northern Virginia with a record of 11-10.
