Big Day for van der Veen as Torch Down Generals, 6-2
|
It was a good time at Torch Field, where fans came to watch the Washington Generals and Mancelona Torch get after it.
The Mancelona Torch defeated the Washington Generals, 6-2. Earning player of the game honors was catcher Arend van der Veen, who went 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5. Ipe de Deugd earned his 1st save in 1 tries.
van der Veen contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Mancelona in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, van der Veen took a splitter from Ryan Carr and stroked the home run to left. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Torch to leap in front, 3-1.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said van der Veen.
Mancelona occupies 4th place in the Premier A at 26-24.
